The Founder Director of the Academy was Hon’ble Mr. Justice Umesh Chandra Dhyani:- Justice Shri U.C. Dhyani joined the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Service on 05.11.1979, and has held several important posts like that of Law Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand and Legal Advisor to His Excellency, the Governor of Uttarakhand. His Lordship has worked as District Judge of Key Districts like Udam Singh Nagar, Nainital and Dehradun . His Lordship was the first Director of Uttarakhand Judicial and Legal Academy and adorned the post till April 2010. On 20-09-2010 His Lordship took charge as Registrar General, High Court of Uttarakhand atNainital. He was elevated as Judge of Hon’ble High Court of Uttarakhand on 13th September, 2011.


Shri R . D. Paliwal :  Sri R . D. Paliwal was born on 20.11.1956 in District Almora . He completed his Post-graduation in Political Science from Agra University and legal education from Rohilkhand University. He belongs to the 1985 UP Judicial Service batch and joined The U .P. Judicial Service on 31.08.1987. His first posting was at Lucknow. During his services in Uttar Pradesh he held several responsibilities like - Special Judicial Magistrate CBI, Special Judicial magistrate- Economic offences, Special Judicial magistrate- Water and Air pollution Control etc. After the creation of the State of Uttarakhand he opted to serve the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. He was promoted to Higher Judicial services in the year 2003. He worked as Addl. District and Session Judge Haldwani and Hardwar.  He was also posted as Addl. Secretary Law/ Addl. Legal Remembrancer to Govt. of Uttarakhand and Addl. Secretary Law to Uttarakhand Public Service Commission. In the year 2006 he was promoted to the District Judge Cadre. He has also held the post of Secretary, Legislative Department, and Parliamentary Affairs to the Govt. of Uttarakhand. He was posted as the Secretary Law and Legal Remembrancer to the Govt. up-to April 2010. On 20 April, 2010 he was appointed as Director Uttarakhand Judicial and Legal Academy. 


Shri Gyanendra Kumar Sharma : Was born on 1st July, 1962 in Village Govindpuri, District-Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He did his Law Graduation from Meerut. Passed LL.M. in the year, 2010. Joined Uttar Pradesh Judicial Services in year 1986. On bifurcation of State of Uttar Pradesh opted for the newly created Uttarakhand State in 2000. Had served in different positions like Law Draftsman, State Law Commission, Uttar Pradesh, Registrar, Public Service Tribunal, Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, Uttarakhand, Additional Director, Uttarakhand Judicial & Legal Academy, Presiding Officer, Central Government Industrial Tribunal-cum-Labour Court, Chandigarh, Chairman, State Transport Appellate Tribunal, Uttarakhand, Secretary, Lokayukta, Uttarakhand & Legal Advisor to His Excellency, Governor, Uttarakhand. Apart from the above assignments has also worked as Special Judge (Anti-Corruption); Special Judge (Gangster Act); Special Judge (SC/ST Act) and Principal Judge, Family Court. He took over charge as Director of this Academy on May 02, 2013. Sri Gyanendra Kumar Sharma is pursuing research in Law (Ph.D.) from Punjab University, Chandigarh on the topic "Evolving the Principles for Ensuring Social, Political and Economic Justice to Women; a Study". He has as written two books namely “Reconciliation and other Proceedings before Family Courts in India” and “Quest for Justice at its Threshold”. Third book "New Dimensions of Gender Justice" is to be released shortly. He has contributed number of articles on different Socio-Legal issues.  


Ms. Meena Tewari:  Mrs Meena Tewari  was born on 18.07.1959 in District Almora. She completed her Graduation/ Post-graduation in B.Sc.(Bio) and legal education from Degrre College, Almora. She belongs to the 1986 UP Judicial Service batch and joined the U .P. Judicial Service on 13-06-1990. Her first posting was at Haldwani, Nainital.  After the creation of the State of Uttarakhand she opted to serve the state of Uttarakhand. She served the state as Addl. District & Sessions Judge, Dehradun and Nainital. She was promoted to Higher Judicial services in the year 2003. She also served as Additional Registrar at Hon'ble High Court of Uttarakhand. She worked as In the year 2008 she was promoted to the District Judge Cadre. She has also held the post of District Judge Chamoli and  Nainital. On 01.06.2014 she was appointed as Director Uttarakhand Judicial and Legal Academy.
